Social Worker Internships

The Office of the Federal Public Defender sponsors on-site social worker internships in coordination with social work degree programs at several local universities. Our office represents indigent individuals charged with various federal crimes. Cases involve drugs, guns, fraud, immigration offenses, child pornography, bank robbery, or other charges. Our clients come from wide-ranging backgrounds.

Our social work interns gain exposure to all aspects of criminal defense. As part of the defense team, interns typically attend court hearings; participate in case meetings and interviews; review medical, school, and child welfare records; meet with incarcerated clients; and prepare charts and other mitigation materials for use in our clients’ cases.

We seek qualified applicants with an interest in indigent criminal defense and strong research and writing skills.

Interested applicants should email a cover letter and resume to Latoya Hampton at latoya_hampton@fd.org.
